Grand Seiko's exclusive exhibition in Singapore showcases the brand's haute horlogerie capabilities.

From March 15th to 18th, 2024, the 'Alive in Time through the Five Senses' exhibition was presented by Grand Seiko Asia Pacific at 72-13, Singapore. This exclusive four-day event, initially launched in Tokyo, Japan, in September 2023, offered an engaging experience that highlighted Grand Seiko's heritage, expertise in watchmaking, and innovative approaches. It allowed guests to explore the brand's legacy and its connection to Japanese culture through an interactive showcase stimulating sight, sound, touch, taste, and smell.
With this exhibition as its latest communication theme, the storied Japanese brand reaffirms its forward-thinking stance in the luxury watch sector. It also conveys the brand's ongoing ambition to innovate and redefine the boundaries of watchmaking.

In the Sight section, attendees were enlightened about the pivotal movements underpinning Grand Seiko's timepieces: the 9S Mechanical, the 9R Spring Drive, and the 9F Quartz. This area featured live demonstrations, providing a close-up view of how the 9S and 9R movements are meticulously assembled. They were carried out by Grand Seiko's master watchmakers, Satoshi Hiraga and Ikukiyo Komatsu, each responsible for the 9S and 9R movements, respectively.&nbsp;

In the Sound section of the exhibition, the spotlight was on Grand Seiko's Kodo Constant-Force Tourbillon, the brand's inaugural high-complication watch and winner of the Chronometry prize at the 2022 Grand Prix d&rsquo;Horlogerie de Gen&egrave;ve (GPHG). Visitors were treated to an auditory exploration, experiencing the meticulous assembly of the watch's 340 components. Following that, guests were immersed in the pure, distinctive 16-beat rhythm of the Kodo, which translates to 'heartbeat' in Japanese. This experience was enhanced by a synchronised display of light effects, creating an ambiance that perfectly complemented the unique sound of the Kodo, thereby offering a holistic and multi-sensory engagement with this masterpiece of horological craftsmanship.

The Touch area offered an intimate, hands-on experience with Grand Seiko's timepieces, each one reflecting the tranquil allure of nature. This interactive segment allowed guests to personally try on various watches, enabling them to experience the brand's renowned precision, quality, and aesthetic appeal firsthand. Adjacent to the watch displays, a carefully designed Zen garden created a serene photographic setting, enhancing the overall ambiance. This blend of natural inspiration and watchmaking excellence fostered a deeper engagement with the watches, encouraging guests to not only view but also physically connect with the essence of Grand Seiko, thereby enriching their appreciation of the brand's commitment to harmony and craftsmanship.

Before entering the Taste and Smell section of the exhibition, guests were guided through four extra showcases, each offering a deep dive into the inspiration behind Grand Seiko's timepieces, with a presentation that beautifully melded with natural elements. This immersive journey culminated in a Japanese Hassun experience, a gastronomic collaboration with Chef Aeron from Kappou Restaurant Singapore. The carefully curated menu symbolised the passage of time, marking the transition from the chill of winter to the blossoming vibrancy of spring. Through this culinary exploration, guests could savour flavors that evoked the changing seasons, mirroring the natural inspirations behind Grand Seiko's designs, and offering a unique sensory connection to the concept of time and its natural flow.
