Cartier reimagines the Iconic Tortue with a modern touch.

A testament to Cartier's mastery of shaping timeless timepieces, Cartier has launched a contemporary interpretation of one of its most prestigious watches originally created in 1912, the Tortue. This watch is following in the footsteps of other rare and legendary Cartier designs like the Crash, the Tank and the Santos. From the 2024 Tortue collection, Cartier launches the single-button chronograph complication.
The new Tortue models, while remaining faithful to its original design, has been subtly reworked with stretched lugs and a slimmer profile. Now, a lighter and more refined watch, they still pay homage to the first model, with their apple-shaped hands and a rail-track design that enhances dial legibility. From these releases emerge the single-button chronograph featuring the Manufacture 1928 MC calibre. Originally debuted on a Tortue watch in 1928 and reinterpreted in 1998 as part of the Collection Priv&eacute;, the chronograph now showcases sophisticated details such as blued-steel apple-shaped hands, a hollowed-out central seconds hand, and triangular motifs at the four corners of the dial.

A chronograph is only as good as its display and, therefore, to enhance dial legibility and improve chronographic precision, the rail-track has been positioned outside the Roman numerals. The dial is, thus, devoted entirely to the two chronograph counters, free from any unnecessary details. The start, stop, and reset functions have been combined in a single push-button integrated into the crown. The movement, at just 4.3mm thick, is the thinnest chronograph created by the Maison and can be enjoyed via the display case back. It reveals the intricate workings of the gears and highlights the column wheel, a crucial component that regulates the levers' functions.
The hallmark of this 1928 MC calibre lies in its exceptional finish and the curves of its C&ocirc;te de Gen&egrave;ve decoration that help to accentuate the bridge shapes. All the key components, including levers, springs, and bridges, are meticulously bevelled, brushed, and rimmed. The platinum version is distinguished by its nuanced aesthetics with blued counters, a silvered opaline dial, and rhodium-plated Roman numerals working perfectly with the case material and ruby cabochon. Conversely, the unforgettable yellow gold version showcases gold-finished apple-shaped hands, a grained golden-finish dial, and a crown adorned with a sapphire cabochon.
