The Franck Muller Cintr&eacute;e Curvex brings a fun twist to the beloved Chinese zodiac animal.

Coming in the auspicious the Year of the Dragon, Franck Muller introduces the Cintr&eacute;e Curvex Ryoko Kaneta Dragon Limited Edition, created in collaboration with renowned Japanese artist Ryoko Kaneta. Departing from traditional dragon imagery, this exclusive Asia Pacific timepiece offers a uniquely refreshing interpretation of the zodiac symbol. It follows the success of 2023&rsquo;s #FR2NCK MULLER Vanguard, which celebrated the Year of the Rabbit. This time instead, this watch goes beyond the typical "zodiac watch" by capturing the broader cultural spirit, ensuring its lasting relevance.
Thanks to Japanese artist Ryoko Kaneta, the new timepiece presents a whimsical reimagining of the mythical dragon. Here, the dragon is anthropomorphised into a series of doll-like girls, a signature style of Kaneta. Each figure interacts uniquely with the indices on the dial, introducing a playful dynamic that contrasts beautifully with the neoclassical elegance of the Cintr&eacute;e Curvex case. Kaneta chose this interpretation to complement the curvilinear elements of the Cintr&eacute;e Curvex, which extend in all three dimensions and inspired her to create figures engaging with the dial's indices.

Ryoko Kaneta graduated from Yokohama University of Art and Design in 2014. Drawing inspiration from Ancient Japanese Philosophy, her artwork delves into the existence of Gods, natural phenomena, and esoteric knowledge. Her dreamy, large-scale landscapes celebrate nature's fleeting beauty, highlighting the impermanence of time, weather phenomena, and dramatic seasonal changes. Using a delicate acrylic technique influenced by the Rinpa and Kano Schools, Kaneta's paintings reflect the ancient Japanese literary portrayal of nature.
The quirky interpretation of the dragon in the new Franck Muller Cintr&eacute;e Curvex Ryoko Kaneta Dragon Limited Edition reflects the brand&rsquo;s philosophy of pushing creative boundaries. This approach mirrors Kaneta&rsquo;s unique aesthetic, characterised by anthropomorphic beings rendered in a "chibi" style, blending Japanese pop culture and traditional philosophies like Shinto. For this collaboration, Kaneta drew inspiration from East Asian beliefs, depicting the dragon as a divine rain-bringer. The figures on the dial are primarily black and white with aqua blue accents, complemented by similarly coloured indices and a textured turquoise dial and strap, creating a cohesive and playful design.
The watch showcases the hallmark features of Franck Muller&rsquo;s Cintr&eacute;e Curvex watch with its intricate curves, transcending the traditional tonneau shape.
