Patek Philippe honours Philippe Stern&rsquo;s exceptional relationship with the brand on his 85th birthday.

To commemorate the 85th birthday of Philippe Stern, the President of Patek Philippe, Thierry Stern, has decided to honour his father by launching a unique series of watches. This initiative is a tribute to the extraordinary career of Philippe Stern, celebrating his commitment to the revival and advancement of high-end watchmaking.
Immediately coming to attention is the Grand Feu black enamel dial of the watch which is adorned with a detailed portrait of Philippe Stern crafted using Grand Feu miniature painting techniques. Powering the watch is a new self-winding R AL 27 PS calibre which has been built on the foundation of the R 27 caliber. It ingeniously merges a minute repeater (a favourite complication of Philippe Stern) with an alarm that chimes using the same two traditional gongs. Integrating these two functions posed a significant technical challenge, necessitating the inclusion of 227 additional components which led to the registration of four new patents.

As with all Patek Philippe highly complicated watches, this watch prioritises the ease of use for the wearer. It features a pusher integrated into the crown which is used to set the chiming mode. Moreover, the watch includes a 12-hour alarm that can be programmed in 15-minute increments.
The tribute watch comes encases in platinum that has been painstakingly polished. It is an Officer's-style case that has a diamond at the 6 o'clock position. On the rear of the case is a sapphire crystal that is protected by a hinged dust cover. The latter has been intricately hand-engraved with "&Agrave; mon p&egrave;re, 85 ans de passion horlog&egrave;re" ("To my father, 85 years of watchmaking passion"). increasing the luxurious appeal of the timepiece, the edges of the bridges and hammers are highlighted with gold plating. The yellow gold micro-rotor features a rhodium-plated surface embellished with black lacquer and yellow gold edges.

Matching the watch perfectly is a lustrous black alligator leather strap which is fastened to the wrist with a platinum folding clasp. For this truly special watch, a brand-new movement is employed.
Interestingly, the calibre as well as the design of this watch will never be used again in any other Patek Philippe timepiece.
