Going beyond 60 years of excellence with the new yellow-gold coloured Rado DiaStar Original Skeleton.

In 1962, the release of the first DiaStar by Rado marked a revolutionary shift in the watchmaking industry. With its distinctive design and advanced materials, the watch stood out in an era dominated by traditional styles. Its robust durability and resistance were unprecedented, initially met with scepticism but ultimately garnering admiration for its innovative approach.
During the post-war era, a period marked by heightened action and excitement, Rado recognised a growing consumer demand for watches that were not only aesthetically pleasing and functional but also exceptionally durable. The brand's introduction of a watch case made from the highly resistant tungsten carbide alloy known as hardmetal was a first in the industry, offering unmatched durability and lustre. Rado also began incorporating sapphire crystal, a material gaining popularity in watchmaking for its diamond-like resilience. In fact, in 1961, Rado officially patented the use of hardmetal alloy for watch-case manufacturing and subsequently became the first company to join a hardmetal case and a sapphire crystal in a watch. This led to the iconic model being aptly named &ldquo;DiaStar,&rdquo; a blend of 'diamond' and 'star,' which perfectly captured the essence of the watch. The DiaStar quickly garnered a dedicated following, solidifying loyalty to both the model and the Rado brand.

In 2022, commemorating the DiaStar's 60th anniversary, Rado launched new versions of this iconic timepiece. Embracing innovation while honouring its legacy, the brand replaced the original tungsten carbide with their proprietary Ceramos&trade;. This material, known for its lightness and durability, also provides unparalleled comfort and a unique tactile experience. The latest addition to this esteemed lineage, just arriving in November 2023, is the updated version of the yellow-gold coloured DiaStar Original, first introduced in 1972. Featuring a Ceramos&trade; bezel, this new model underscores Rado&rsquo;s reputation as the 'Master of Materials' in watchmaking.
The new watch showcases more than its eye-catching yellow-gold coloured case as it embodies the brand's esteemed Art of Skeletonisation. This technique reveals the anthracite-grey coated version of the R808 automatic calibre through the sapphire crystal on the front and case back sides of the watch.
As the main fa&ccedil;ade, the black annular dial contrasts strikingly with the yellow-gold coloured case and bezel. Dial details include a white printed minute track, flying yellow-gold coloured indexes, and hour and minute hands coated with white Super-LumiNova&reg;. The combination of elements ensures superb readability in various lighting conditions. As a bonus, the distinctive gold-coloured Rado anchor symbol set against a red backdrop on the dial reminds us of Rado&rsquo;s savoir faire and storied heritage. Moreover, the front crystal creatively features the "Rado" and "DiaStar" logos printed on its interior.

The watch's movement is a testament to precision and durability, having undergone extensive testing in five positions. Engineered to ensure years of service and enjoyment, the movement includes a Nivachron&trade; balance hairspring which provides enhanced resistance to magnetic fields. Additionally, this Rado R808 movement is notable for its significant 80 hours of power reserve. The case of the watch maintains water resistance up to 100 metres of depth.
To match the striking case, the watch is complemented by a polished and brushed yellow-gold coloured PVD coated steel bracelet. It comes equipped with a triple fold clasp and Rado&rsquo;s EasyClip system for enhanced comfort and ease of use. The new DiaStar Original Skeleton continues the legacy of Rado's pioneering design ethos and perfectly reflects Rado&rsquo;s commitment to innovation and its founding vision: &ldquo;If we can imagine it, we can make it. And if we can make it, we will.&rdquo;
