Reimagining An Icon
Two new versions of the Oyster Perpetual Cosmograph Daytona masterfully blend precision and opulence.
Launched in 1963, the legendary Rolex Oyster Perpetual Cosmograph Daytona arrived to meet the demands of professional racing drivers. Featuring a tachymetric bezel and a high-performance mechanical movement, this iconic chronograph is the go-to instrument for measuring time intervals and calculating average speeds. Throughout its history, it has also been offered in luxurious gem-set versions, where the tachymetric scale is instead replaced with diamonds or coloured precious stones.
Now, more than six decades after its debut, it continues to hold an unrivalled status among sport chronographs. This time around, Rolex is introducing two new versions of the Cosmograph Daytona, distinguished by their contrasting dials made from natural mother-of-pearl, adorned with eight diamonds and three Chromalight hour markers. Both watches are crafted in white gold and feature a bezel set with 36 brilliant-cut diamonds.
The first version is fitted with an Oysterflex bracelet and showcases a dial in white mother-of-pearl with chronograph counters in black mother-of-pearl. Conversely, the second watch features a white gold Oyster bracelet. This model presents the opposite design with a black mother-of-pearl dial and white mother-of-pearl counters.
Like all Rolex timepieces, the Cosmograph Daytona is backed by the Superlative Chronometer certification, a standard redefined by Rolex in 2015. Inside the watch is the Rolex manufacture Calibre 4131. First seen in the Cosmograph Daytona in 2023, it is made with a reduced number of components which enhances the movement’s reliability. The column wheel and vertical clutch chronograph configuration allows for an instantaneous and extremely precise start. The chronograph feature for the Cosmograph Daytona measures time via the centre seconds, 30-minute counter and 12-hour counter respectively. Moreover, the calibre 4131 incorporates the patented dependable and efficient Chronergy escapement.
